The American Institute for the Study of War has analyzed claims about a possible one-week moratorium on strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, announced by US President Donald Trump after a conversation with Vladimir Putin. Analysts believe that such a pause could allow Russia to accumulate resources for further attacks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated in the ISW<\/a> report.<\/p>\n

As is known, US President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a week-long moratorium on strikes on certain Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, but the specific terms of the agreement remain unclear.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Russian military bloggers claimed that the moratorium allegedly applies to all targets in Kyiv and the region, as well as energy facilities throughout Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War note that a short-term moratorium is not a significant concession from Russia, as Moscow has previously offered similar temporary pauses without agreeing to a long-term ceasefire.<\/p>\n

“A temporary moratorium on long-range strikes could be beneficial to the aggressor country if both Russia and Ukraine participate in the moratorium. Russian forces could build up arsenals of drones and missiles<\/strong> that could later be used to launch combined strikes \u2014 until Ukraine stops its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure,” ISW analysts said.<\/p>\n

The report also notes that the Kremlin has previously used short-term ceasefires as part of information campaigns<\/strong> , trying to demonstrate a willingness to compromise while rejecting calls from Ukraine and the United States for a lasting cessation of strikes on civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n

At the same time, bloggers associated with the Russian authorities stated that the ceasefire was temporary and related to the next round of negotiations in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for February 1.<\/p>\n

Other Russian bloggers also criticized the moratorium, but noted that its short duration would allow Russia to continue attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure later.<\/p>\n

Some bloggers have also argued that Russia’s war against Ukraine is part of a broader conflict and that possible concessions could be used to achieve further goals.<\/p>\n

By the way, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the agreement on the so-called “energy truce”<\/a> with Russia for the period of winter cold.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko confirmed that there are agreements between Ukraine and Russia on an “energy truce.”<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on information spread online about an alleged “energy truce”<\/a> between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
