\nThe Supreme Court has finally closed the chapter on a disgraceful case where an important and self-evidently just idea\u2014the creation of a memorial cemetery for fallen soldiers\u2014was twisted into yet another corruption scheme. Notably, the Court avoided ruling on legal consequences, limiting itself to assessing the lawfulness of the authorities\u2019 actions. That alone proved sufficient to expose and stop the scheme.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National War Memorial Cemetery was meant to become a unifying place of memory\u2014a site where the state and society honor those who gave their lives for Ukraine. But things turned out differently. It became clear that the Ukrainian authorities are unable to handle even sacred matters\u2014the remembrance of fallen heroes\u2014without scandal.<\/p>\n

Instead of an open competition for such a crucial project and transparent construction, we witnessed a covert distribution of funds among \u201ctheir people,\u201d the involvement of sanctioned companies, and a decision that seems to mock the very idea of the memorial: burials in an area with a high groundwater level\u2014essentially, in water.<\/p>\n

These actions were the subject of legal review. The courts found the key points of the order to be illegal, including:
\u2022 Changing the designated purpose of forest lands to burial grounds, with the right to cut down trees;
\u2022 Transferring over 258 hectares of state land for permanent use to the newly established institution responsible for the memorial cemetery;
\u2022 Terminating the permanent use rights of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine over this land;
\u2022 Ordering the state registration of these decisions.<\/p>\n\t\t
