India agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil, although it still remained the second largest buyer of this resource from Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by US President Donald Trump on the social network Truth Social.<\/p>\n

According to him, the agreement was the result of a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the talks, the parties discussed trade and Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Trump said Modi had agreed to stop buying Russian oil and instead increase imports from the United States and possibly Venezuela, a decision the US president said could affect Russia’s ability to finance its war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, India has become one of the key buyers of Russian oil, second only to China in terms of volume. Thanks to this, Russia was able to partially compensate for the loss of the European market after the imposition of sanctions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition to the energy deal, the US and India have agreed to a trade deal that takes effect immediately, under which the United States will reduce tariffs on India from 25% to 18%.<\/p>\n

Also, according to Trump, the Indian side promised to gradually reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers for American goods and significantly increase purchases of products from the United States – from energy resources to agricultural and technological goods.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia has sharply increased its gold sales to China in 2025.<\/a> This amounts to dozens of tons, which looks like a forced sale of reserves amid financial pressure and problems with filling the budget.<\/p>\n

Recall that India’s refusal to import Russian oil poses a dilemma for Moscow: what to do with all the crude oil that it pumps onto tankers but cannot ship to refineries.<\/a> <\/p>\n
