The Kremlin is trying to use economic and strategic topics not directly related to the war to persuade the administration of US President Donald Trump to make concessions to Russia on the issue of Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported<\/a> by the Institute for the Study of War.<\/p>\n

Analysts drew attention to statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on February 1, in which he called on Russia and the United States to implement joint economic and trade projects and avoid confrontation over differences.<\/p>\n

According to the institute, the Kremlin has been using such rhetoric since the beginning of Donald Trump’s second presidential term, trying to position Russia as a state equal to the United States and the heir to the superpower status of the USSR.<\/p>\n

The report notes that these statements are aimed at stimulating negotiations on economic agreements or strategic weapons in order to obtain concessions on Ukraine. In particular, the Kremlin seeks to exclude European countries from a potential peace process.<\/p>\n

\u201cLavrov\u2019s statements are intended to use the prospect of economic deals or strategic arms negotiations to induce Trump to give in to Russia\u2019s demands regarding Ukraine,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n

Separately, analysts point out that Russia is trying to create an image of readiness for negotiations in order to achieve diplomatic control over the entire Donetsk region. Such signals are addressed primarily to an external audience.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, during peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi, the issue of Donetsk region remains key and unresolved.<\/a> Analysts note that the transfer of control over part of the region will not stop the war, but will only create conditions for a new Russian offensive.<\/p>\n
