At the same time, the main feature of this season may not be so much the cold, but its duration.

This was stated by the head of the weather forecast department of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, Natalia Golenya, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

According to the weather forecaster, starting from February 7, the air temperature in most regions of the country will gradually approach zero or even turn into positive values. The most noticeable warming is predicted in the south and in Transcarpathia – there the thermometers may rise to +6…+8 degrees.

However, frosts will return to Ukraine from February 8. Daytime and night temperatures are expected to range from -3 to -9 degrees, and on the night of February 9–10, the cold may intensify again.

Natalia Golenya notes that even severe frosts of -30 degrees are not a record for Ukraine. Such temperatures are rare, but are not considered abnormal. However, forecasters are more concerned about something else – the duration of the cold period.

According to her, this winter could be one of the longest in history with average daily temperatures consistently below zero. In fact, the cold weather set in at the end of December and, according to preliminary estimates, could last until at least mid-February. There is a possibility that the average monthly temperature will be below the climatic norm for two consecutive months.

Forecaster Natalia Didenko also warns of a new wave of cold snap. According to her forecast, frosts will ease somewhat from February 5, but along with warming, precipitation will appear and the wind will intensify. Starting next week, approximately from February 9-10, the cold in Ukraine will gain strength again.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

This winter in Ukraine is characterized by low temperatures, but there is nothing extraordinary about it – similar frosts have been recorded before.
