The key task of the authorities during a full-scale war should be to focus all resources on strengthening and financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, not talking about upcoming elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This was stated by Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, European Solidarity reports<\/a> .<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to her, the current, 15th session of parliament has become a record-breaking one, and if it weren’t for the great war, this composition of the Verkhovna Rada would have ceased its work long ago.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Any talk about elections during the war sounds unworthy and brutal. Today we need to focus on ending the war. No matter how much the authorities repeat about the supposedly ready points of the peace agreement, we see this “peace agreement” at night, when Kyiv and Kharkiv are bombed again, when peaceful cities remain under attack,” Gerashchenko emphasized.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She noted that such statements do not make homes in Troyeshchyna and Solomyanka warmer, where people have been living in the cold for weeks due to the consequences of shelling and the energy crisis.<\/p>\n

“The key task of the government today is to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the faction co-chair emphasized.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Gerashchenko said that she was receiving messages from the military on the front lines about a critical shortage of basic survival supplies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Thank you to the volunteers who handed over the heating pads. Those who were not given them – amputations from hypothermia. And this is the direct responsibility of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, who should be a father to the soldiers: to make sure that they are fed, that they are warm and that they have weapons,” she said.<\/p>\n

The politician sharply criticized the state budget, stating that the decisions made by the authorities create a huge hole in the provision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“Every frozen person at the front is the responsibility of this session hall. We demand that the issues of security, energy, and real European integration unite the parliament in this record-breaking session,” Gerashchenko emphasized.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She also reported that, together with the Kyiv team, she visited the most affected houses in Troyeshchyna and Solomianka.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“How do the deputies from these districts look people in the eye? They don’t appear there. 8 billion hryvnias were stolen from Kyiv, which were supposed to go to air defense and cogeneration plants to help people survive this disaster,” the faction co-chair said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that the country’s political leadership seeks to hold the electoral process as soon as possible in order to preserve its chances of re-election.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the CEC has named key conditions for holding post-war elections<\/a> in Ukraine. Preparation for them will require considerable time due to the destroyed infrastructure and mass population displacement.<\/p>\n
