In Ukraine, the rules for concluding marriage may be revised – the new draft of the Civil Code proposes to lower the minimum age for marriage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In particular, the document<\/a> stipulates that teenagers from the age of 14 will be able to marry in exceptional cases if they are pregnant or already have a child. For those who have turned 16, marriage is possible only by court decision.<\/p>\n

Currently, the general marriageable age in Ukraine is 18 years old, and it can only be lowered by court decision in cases specified by law.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Justice emphasizes that this is currently only a legislative initiative that still needs to go through discussion and all stages of approval. If the changes work, they could significantly affect the current rules for concluding marriage in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
