Mercenaries from Africa who fought on Russia’s side against Ukraine have received Russian passports. The citizenship was granted in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the Center, these are two Gambian citizens who served in the Russian army. The Russian side granted them citizenship in a show of gratitude for their participation in the war.<\/p>\n

The Center for Countering Disinformation notes that Russia encourages foreign mercenaries with the opportunity to obtain a simplified passport, but such cases are isolated and not widespread.<\/p>\n

They also emphasize that the Russian Federation is actively recruiting in African countries. People are promised civilian jobs and high salaries, but after signing contracts, they are forcibly sent to the front.<\/p>\n

Experts note that most foreigners who are involved in the war against Ukraine die in combat and do not receive any legal protection from Russia.<\/p>\n
