The Italian Foreign Ministry has announced its support for the UN-proposed Olympic Truce for the duration of the current Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The department’s press service reported this.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that, amid numerous armed conflicts, sport remains an important platform for dialogue. Italy emphasized that the Olympic Games were originally founded in the name of peace, and Rome reaffirmed its commitment to these principles by facilitating the adoption of the relevant UN General Assembly resolution on the Olympic Truce.<\/p>\n

The agency also noted that in 2025 alone, more than 233,000 people worldwide would die due to wars and armed conflicts, and more than 123 million would be forced to flee their homes.<\/p>\n

The Italian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the country continues to play an active diplomatic and humanitarian role, including working for peace in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as engaging in the resolution of less visible conflicts, particularly in Sudan. They added that through humanitarian initiatives, such as “Food for Gaza” and “Italy for Sudan,” the country remains a leader in efforts to protect civilians, especially children.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the agreement on a so-called “energy truce”<\/a> with Russia for the winter cold period.<\/p>\n

Earlier, it was reported that People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko confirmed that Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement on an “energy truce.”<\/a><\/p>\n

As is known, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on information circulating online about an alleged “energy truce”<\/a> between Ukraine and Russia.<\/p>\n
