The European Commission has proposed a 20th package of sanctions against Russia over its ongoing aggression against Ukraine. The new restrictions target the energy sector, the financial system, and trade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the European Commission.<\/p>\n

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that sanctions pressure is necessary to influence Russia in the context of the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“While Ukraine continues to defend itself on the battlefield with extraordinary courage, the Kremlin is doubling down on war crimes by deliberately targeting residential buildings and civilian infrastructure,” said Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n

She also noted that Russia may agree to negotiations only if international pressure increases.<\/p>\n

“Russia will only sit down at the negotiating table with sincere intent if pressure is put on it, because this is the only language Russia understands,” said Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n
