Ukraine insists that security guarantees, signed before other documents, must be a key condition of any agreement to end the war.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during a conversation with journalists.<\/p>\n

According to the head of state, concluding security agreements will be an important signal of trust in international partners and will create the basis for future political decisions. He emphasized that the issue of guarantees concerns not only justice but also mutual trust.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy also noted that Russia likely has no interest in Ukraine concluding separate security agreements with the United States. At the same time, he asserted, this would not change Kyiv’s position: Ukraine will insist on security guarantees as a prerequisite for ending the war. <\/p>\n

As a reminder, Ukraine, the United States, and Russia held another round of talks<\/a> on resolving the war in Abu Dhabi. The parties made some progress on procedural issues, but key disagreements remain. The most contentious issue in the negotiations remains control over the entire Donetsk region, on which the parties have not yet reached an agreed-upon resolution.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated the Kremlin’s demands on Ukraine as a condition for ending the war. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War stated that these messages indicate Moscow’s desire to politically subjugate Ukraine<\/a> . The Kremlin can achieve this without full military control over Ukrainian territory, using political influence and the formation of a loyal government.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that ending the fighting remains the top priority and expressed hope that peace can be achieved<\/a> within the next year through active diplomacy and negotiations.<\/p>\n
