A ceasefire in Ukraine could increase the risk of a Russian attack on NATO’s eastern flank.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> Tagesspiegel, citing a statement by the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, while Ukraine is at war, the Russian army is suffering significant losses, which reduces the threat level to NATO countries. Russia is losing thousands of soldiers every week, and its forces remain concentrated in the Ukrainian direction.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Ischinger noted that after the ceasefire is announced, the situation could change dramatically.
“As soon as there is a ceasefire in Ukraine, Putin will be able to peacefully continue rearmament, and the threat to NATO countries on the eastern flank will increase,” he stressed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He emphasized that he wants to stop the deaths of Ukrainians, but emphasized that now Ukraine is actually defending not only itself, but also all of Europe.<\/p>\n

According to Ischinger, if the ceasefire is not accompanied by a serious restriction of the Russian military presence in the western military districts of the Russian Federation, the level of threat to European countries, in particular Germany, will only increase.<\/p>\n

“A simple ceasefire is by no means a reason to relax,” he concluded.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the West and the United States have announced a mechanism for security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a new Russian invasion.<\/a><\/p>\n
