The athlete retains his Games participant status and sports license, but will not be able to compete in the skeleton event.

This was reported by the International Olympic Committee.

The IOC has reviewed the situation surrounding Geraskevych following the incident at the 2026 Games and has issued an official statement regarding the athlete’s status. The decision, which previously effectively removed the Ukrainian from the competition, was subject to additional review following a personal dialogue between IOC President Christy Coventry and the athlete.

After this conversation, the head of the IOC asked the Disciplinary Commission to re-evaluate the grounds for sanctions against the athlete. As a result, a decision was made to allow Geraskevych to participate in the Olympics without deprivation of accreditation.

“In an exceptional case, after a very respectful conversation with the athlete, Coventry has appealed to the Chairman of the IOC Disciplinary Commission to reconsider the issue of depriving Vladyslav Geraskevych of accreditation for the 2026 Games in Milan,” the IOC noted.

At the same time, access to direct skeleton competitions for Ukrainian athletes remains closed.

It is worth adding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych the Order of Freedom.

“For selfless service to the Ukrainian people, civic courage and patriotism in upholding the ideals of freedom and democratic values, I decree: To award the Order of Freedom to Vladislav Mykhailovych Geraskevych, a member of the national Olympic team of Ukraine, a skeleton athlete,” the decree states.

By the way, Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych was disqualified before the start of the competition at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games because he went to training on the Olympic track wearing a “memory helmet” with images of athletes who died during the war with Russia.

As reported, the International Olympic Committee has banned skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevych from competing at the Olympic Games wearing a helmet with the image of Ukrainian athletes who died as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

Subsequently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the International Olympic Committee’s decision to disqualify Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevych from the 2026 Olympics.
