Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv appealed to US President Donald Trump to use the political moment to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader declared his readiness for peace negotiations, but emphasized that he would not agree to agreements that were disadvantageous to the state.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Appeal to Trump<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Zelensky said that ending the war could be an important political achievement for Donald Trump. According to the Ukrainian president, this could affect the American leader’s political legacy and his position ahead of the US midterm elections.<\/p>\n

“I think there is no greater victory for Trump than stopping the war between Russia and Ukraine. In terms of his legacy, this is victory number one,” Zelensky said.<\/p>\n

He added that a cessation of hostilities could be beneficial for the American president from a political point of view.<\/p>\n

“The most advantageous situation for Trump is to do this before the midterm elections. Yes, he wants there to be fewer deaths. But if we are talking to you as adults, this is simply his victory, a political one,” the President of Ukraine said.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s position<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine supports diplomatic initiatives and demonstrates readiness for compromises if they contribute to ending the war. At the same time, he emphasized that Kyiv will not agree to an agreement that would contradict the interests of the state.<\/p>\n

“Ukraine will not lose,” Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n

The President explained that the Ukrainian side seeks to show its partners its readiness to negotiate and find solutions.<\/p>\n

“The tactic we chose is to make sure the Americans don’t think we want to continue the war. That’s why we started supporting their proposals in any format that speeds up the process,” he said.<\/p>\n

Safety guarantees<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Ukrainian President noted that a prerequisite for a possible ceasefire is security guarantees from the US and Europe. According to him, without such guarantees, the agreements may not ensure long-term peace.<\/p>\n

“This issue has not yet been resolved. We have raised this issue and will continue to raise it,” Zelensky said.<\/p>\n

He also stated that Ukraine insists on fixing security guarantees in relevant documents.<\/p>\n

“We need all of this to be recorded,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.<\/p>\n

Possible political solutions after the ceasefire<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to consider holding elections or a referendum on the peace agreement after a ceasefire and security guarantees are received.<\/p>\n

“I am ready for elections. But for this we need security, security guarantees, a ceasefire,” he noted.<\/p>\n

The President also stressed that the negotiations remain difficult due to Russia’s position, which does not give up territorial claims. According to Zelensky, any decisions on territorial issues must comply with the Constitution of Ukraine and the position of the Ukrainian people.<\/p>\n
