Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in a Russian prison after being poisoned by the toxin epibatidine, which is found in the skin of Ecuadorian tree frogs. Tests on the politician’s biomaterials have confirmed the presence of the deadly substance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by Sky News<\/a> and BBC Ukraine<\/a> .<\/p>\n

It is noted that the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands concluded that the politician was poisoned after analyzing biomaterials that the family was able to take abroad. The research was conducted by several independent laboratories.<\/p>\n

“The United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands are confident that Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a deadly poison,” the British department said in a press release.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that epibatidine is a neurotoxin that is naturally found in South American frogs and is not found in nature in Russia. According to the department, the toxicity of the substance and the described symptoms indicate that the cause of the politician’s death was likely poisoning.<\/p>\n

“Russia claims that Navalny died of natural causes. Given the toxicity of epibatidine and the symptoms reported, his death was most likely caused by poisoning,” the department noted.<\/p>\n

The politician’s wife, Yulia Navalny, thanked European countries for conducting research and confirming the causes of her husband’s death.<\/p>\n

“I was sure from day one that my husband was poisoned, but now there is evidence: Putin killed Alexei with a chemical weapon,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin has not yet commented on the statements of European countries. Previously, the Russian authorities stated that the politician died of a “combined disease” and denied involvement in his death.<\/p>\n

It is worth recalling that the oppositionist returned to Russia in 2021 after receiving treatment in Germany for a previous poisoning with the Novichok substance. Upon his return, he was detained and sentenced to several terms of imprisonment, including 19 years in a special regime colony.<\/p>\n

As is known, on February 16 , Russia officially announced the death of Russian politician Alexei Navalny<\/a> in correctional colony No. 3 in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Russian Federation. Commenting on Navalny’s death, President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that this Russian politician was apparently killed by Putin, like thousands of other tortured people.
