President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a briefing at the Munich Security Conference that Russia is holding about 7,000 Ukrainian prisoners of war. Ukraine, he said, has more than 4,000 Russian military personnel available for a possible exchange.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the President’s Office.<\/p>\n

According to the president, Ukraine now has more opportunities to exchange prisoners than before. He noted that the number of Russian military personnel held in Ukrainian captivity has increased significantly.<\/p>\n

“They have about 7,000<\/strong> Ukrainian prisoners of war. We have over 4,000.<\/strong> This is good news, because we had 1,500. Now we have a little over 4,000,” the president said.<\/p>\n

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is open to various formats for the return of prisoners of war. He emphasized that Kyiv is ready to agree to any format of exchange depending on the readiness of the Russian side.<\/p>\n

“If they are ready to “all for all” – great. If they are ready to “1000 for 1000” – not great, but good. But if they are even ready to exchange “100 for 100″, then we can make an exchange,” he said.<\/p>\n

The President added that any step aimed at releasing Ukrainian military personnel is viewed as a positive outcome, and the Ukrainian negotiating team has the necessary mandate to implement the relevant agreements.<\/p>\n

By the way, on February 5, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners<\/a> , and 157 military personnel of the Defense Forces were able to return home.<\/p>\n

Recall that on February 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Munich and spoke at the Munich Security Conference. During his speech, the head of state raised the issues of military assistance, peace negotiations, Russian aggression, and security guarantees.<\/a><\/p>\n
