Hungary has initiated negotiations with Croatia on transporting Russian oil via the Adriatic route following the cessation of transit via the Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bloomberg writes<\/a> about this.<\/p>\n

Budapest has officially requested Zagreb to ensure Russian oil supplies via the Adria pipeline. A joint letter to this effect was sent by Hungarian Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3<\/span><\/span> and Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n

“We are asking Croatia to ensure the transportation of Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the Adria pipeline, as our sanctions exemption allows for the import of Russian oil by sea in the event of pipeline supply disruptions,” Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that energy security issues should not become the subject of ideological discussions.<\/p>\n

Oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline was halted late last month amid massive Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. This route is critical for Hungary, which is landlocked.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the European Union is considering several options for Ukraine’s integration into the bloc<\/a> , which could become part of the upcoming peace agreement.<\/p>\n

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n has reportedly publicly stated that Budapest will not allow Ukraine to join the European Union<\/a> and has accused Kyiv of interfering in the country’s domestic politics.<\/p>\n
