Six Russian and four Belarusian athletes will compete under the national flags at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In September 2025, the International Paralympic Committee<\/span><\/span> lifted the ban on athletes from Russia and Belarus participating in the Games. At the same time, the four international federations responsible for all six Winter Paralympic sports maintained their own restrictions and refused to allow them to compete.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In December 2025, Russia and Belarus won an appeal against the International Ski and Snowboard Federation<\/span><\/span> to the Court of Arbitration for Sport<\/span><\/span> . This decision allowed the athletes to compete and earn ranking points.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As confirmed by the IPC to BBC Sport, 10 athletes from the two countries have received invitations to compete in para-skiing, para-racing, and para-snowboarding.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This will be the first time since the 2014 Winter Paralympics<\/span><\/span> in Sochi that the Russian flag will be raised at the Paralympics. Following those Games, Russia was banned first for its state-sponsored doping program and then for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<\/p>\n

UK Department for Culture Lisa Nandy<\/span><\/span> called the decision “utterly wrong” and stated that allowing athletes to compete under national flags during a time of war sends the wrong message. She called on the IPC to urgently reconsider its position.<\/p>\n

The 2026 Winter Paralympic Games will be held from March 6 to 15 in Milan<\/span><\/span> and Cortina d’Ampezzo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
