If the Russian occupiers continue to actively shell the Ukrainian energy system, the situation will worsen again in the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by the former head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi,<\/span> quoted by<\/span><\/a> NV.<\/span><\/p>\n

“If the Russians really lose their appetite for shelling, then I think we can get through the summer without any major problems. I mean, there won’t be any catastrophic levels of outages. They may be there, but they won’t be as painful as, for example, in the summer of 2024,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, in the opposite case, Ukrainians will face severe power outages during the summer heat.<\/span><\/p>\n

In particular, this is related to the operation of hydroelectric power plants. Kudrytsky explained that after floods, the water content of the Dnieper and Dniester rivers decreases, reducing the amount of electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This usually happens after May. And this is the period when the summer heat begins, the hydroelectric power plant has less resources to generate electricity, because there is less water,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the former head of Ukrenergo emphasized that the nuclear power plants are in the active phase of nuclear fuel reloading and undergoing repairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when, perhaps, with intensive attacks, the Russians can really create certain problems like in the summer of 2024,\u201d Kudrytsky suggested.<\/span><\/p>\n

He assured that there is little time left to prepare the energy system for next winter.<\/span><\/p>\n

“And the eight or nine months that remain are very few. And in fact, if we look at the time required to deploy decentralized generation (which is six to ten months) and add them to today, we will understand that we are already late in preparing for next winter as much as possible,” Kudrytskyi noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, on February 19, hundreds of settlements in a number of regions were left without electricity<\/a> due to Russian shelling, hostilities, and bad weather.<\/p>\n
