Slovakian<\/span><\/span> Prime Minister Robert Fico<\/span><\/span> said he could initiate a shutdown of emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit is not resumed by Monday, February 23.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He announced this on social media, addressing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fico accused the Ukrainian side of causing damage to Slovakia in the amount of 500 million euros due to the “stopping of gas flows” and also due to the cessation of oil supplies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Slovakia is a proud and sovereign country, and I am a proud and sovereign Slovak. If oil supplies to Slovakia are not resumed on Monday, I will ask the state-owned company SEPS to stop emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. In January 2026 alone, these emergency supplies were needed to stabilize the Ukrainian power grid twice as much as in all of 2025,” he stated.<\/p>\n

We are talking about the operator of the Slovak power system SEPS<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Oil transit via the Druzhba route through Ukraine has been suspended since late January 2026 following Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. It was via this route that Slovakia and Hungary received their bulk of their oil.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Hungarian<\/span><\/span> Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3<\/span><\/span> previously stated that Ukraine was allegedly blocking oil transit for political reasons. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side noted that the Druzhba pipeline’s transportation was halted precisely as a result of Russian attacks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Hungary blocked the agreed-upon 90 billion euro European Union loan for Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Hungary<\/span><\/span> will send 250,000 tons of oil from its strategic reserves to the domestic market following the cessation of supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.<\/a> <\/p>\n
