Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, launched on February 24, 2022, on the orders of Vladimir Putin, was a war that shattered the Kremlin’s key military and political calculations. Analysts say the conflict has led to significant human losses, economic problems, and a weakening of Moscow’s international position.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a column by chief international correspondent Matthew Chance, analysis by the Royal United Services Institute suggests that Moscow had expected to take control of Ukraine in 10 days. After more than 1,450 days of fighting, that plan has proven to be a fundamental mistake.<\/p>\n

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost almost 1.2 million people killed and wounded, of whom approximately 325,000 died. Ukraine’s losses, according to the same estimates, are between 500,000 and 600,000.<\/p>\n

Amid the war, Russia has increased military spending. Although the country’s economy has not collapsed after the sanctions shock thanks to oil and gas exports, analysts point to structural problems, including labor shortages due to mobilization and defense orders, rising inflation, and rising food prices.<\/p>\n

One of the Kremlin’s declared goals of stopping NATO expansion had the opposite effect: Finland and Sweden joined the alliance, and Russia’s land border with NATO more than doubled.<\/p>\n

Analysts at the Center for European Policy Analysis note that sanctions and international isolation have increased Moscow’s dependence on China, and Russia has effectively become Beijing’s “junior partner” due to the limited availability of alternative economic ties.<\/p>\n

The material also states that Russia has lost influence over some of its traditional allies, in particular, it has failed to maintain the Bashar Assad regime in Syria and has demonstrated limited capabilities to protect the interests of partners in the Middle East and Latin America.<\/p>\n

Journalists summarize that over 4 years, the war has led to large-scale human losses, economic imbalances, and a weakening of Russia’s international positions.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia may not limit itself to territorial claims during possible negotiations to end the war against Ukraine<\/a> . According to their estimates, Moscow is capable of making additional political and security demands.<\/p>\n
