The European Union has extended sanctions against the Russian Federation for another year – until February 24, 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Official Journal of the EU, which published the relevant decision on February 23.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The document notes that Russia continues to violate fundamental norms of international law, in particular the prohibition of the use of force enshrined in Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, as well as the norms of international humanitarian law. In view of this, the European Union maintains all previously imposed restrictive measures in force.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The decision will enter into force on February 24, 2026.<\/p>\n

The EU also recalled the UN General Assembly resolution adopted on February 24, 2025. The document requires Russia to immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and to cease all military actions, including attacks on civilians and facilities.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Hungarian Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3<\/span><\/span> said that his country would block the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, on February 21, 2026, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed decrees implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the application of new sanctions packages.<\/a><\/p>\n
