Candles and lamps. Especially many of them are lit these days on Instytutska. Again the mournful faces of officials in expensive coats. Again pathetic speeches about ideals, freedom, and the price paid by the Heavenly Hundred in 2014.

I feel unbearably, burningly ashamed.

It’s a shame, because exactly 12 years after snipers reaped a bloody harvest on the cobblestones, we woke up in a country where the ideals of the Revolution of Dignity have not just been betrayed – they have been cynically trampled under the boots of the new-old government. Those who should be rotting in prisons for building a dictatorship and the blood of students are now sitting in the highest offices of the Office of the President.

We made a revolution, lost the Heavenly Hundred, and survived decades of Muscovy’s war against us only to discover in 2026 that the country is ruled by the same pro-Russian, cynical cop scumbag that the people revolted against. And this scumbag has a very specific name, surname, and position.

Oleg Tatarov: a symbol of absolute revenge

It is impossible to talk about the betrayal of the ideals of the Maidan without talking about Oleg Tatarov. Half of this text is dedicated to him not because he is just an official. But because he is the diagnosis of the disease that has devoured our state. He is alive, smiling and endowed with absolute power to spit on every grave of the Heavenly Hundred.

Let’s remember who this is.

In 2013-2014, Oleg Tatarov was not just a “policeman”. He was the face of the punitive machine of Vitaly Zakharchenko and Viktor Yanukovych. It was he, as the top speaker of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who went to briefings and lied in front of the whole country. He justified the brutal beating of students. He said that protesters shoot themselves, attack peaceful “Berkut” police officers, kidnap and torture themselves in the forests. He was the architect of the information and legal cover-up of mass murders in the center of Kyiv.

Then he faithfully served the traitor Yanukovych. Now he serves the traitor Zelensky with the same dogged zeal.

The fact that Zelensky and Yermak brought this Anti-Maidan figure to Bankova and made him the curator of the entire law enforcement system is not a personnel error, it is clear that it is a conscious choice. This is a demonstration that there is no essential difference between the Yanukovych regime and the Zelensky regime. Only the scenery, the quality of the videos, and the names of the presidents have changed. But the tools of state management have remained 100% Moscow-based.

Anatomy of a police state: how the system works

Tatarov didn’t just come back. He built a monster. Today he is the shadow vice president for security affairs. Having no constitutional authority to do so, he single-handedly and manually controls the State Bureau of Investigation, the State Security Bureau, the National Police, and part of the Security Service of Ukraine. This vertical was not created to protect the law or investigate crimes. It is a giant, legalized organized crime group (OCG) that performs three basic functions of Putin’s model of state.

Petro Poroshenko on the anniversary of the Maidan shootings: The memory of the events motivates us not to give up.

Destroying and milking independent businesses

A free economy is the main enemy of any dictatorship. Russia relies on the fact that every businessman is “on the hook” of FSB security officers. In Ukraine, this role is played by Tatarov’s dogs.

The National Police and the BEB (to Tsyvinsky – maybe he will do something) have been turned into tools of systemic racketeering. The mechanics are simple and merciless to a country that is bleeding: they come to the real sector of the economy – for example, to a successful medical business, innovative companies or industries – draw a fabricated criminal case out of thin air, block accounts and issue an ultimatum. The system can directly demand $ 500 thousand just to close the fake proceedings and let the enterprise survive, as it happened to me.

These are not law enforcement officers. These are marauders in uniform. They are killing the investment climate and jobs more effectively than Russian missiles, because for them Ukraine is just a fodder base.

Total terror against civil society and media

When the system lacks intelligence and arguments, it includes wiretapping and external surveillance. The Tatar machine systematically wages war on those who tell the truth. Surveillance of Bihus.Info investigators, installation of hidden cameras in journalists’ bedrooms, discrediting campaigns against anti-corruption activists, intimidation and pressure – how is this different from Yanukovych’s methods of 2013? Nothing. Unless the technologies have become more modern.

The authorities, which, during an existential war with Russia, are spending enormous resources of their special services on spying on their own journalists, are suffering from the same Moscow paranoia as the residents of the Kremlin.

Mindichgate: if the smoke is coming from Bankova, then don’t look for the fire in your neighbor

Paralysis of anti-corruption infrastructure

NABU and SAPO were created with blood and sweat after the Maidan precisely as a safeguard against the return of the “Donetsk” and the arbitrariness of the elites. What do we see today? Complete information leaks from NABU through Tatar moles. Manual management of the courts, where cases against “their own” (servants of the people, top officials of the OP) simply fall apart or do not reach suspicion.

Tatarov himself miraculously (or rather, through the efforts of hand-me-down prosecutors and judges) avoided prison in the corruption case involving apartments for the National Guard. He understood: in order not to go to jail, it is necessary to destroy those who can put you in jail. And he successfully turned the anti-corruption vertical into a sterile, safe facade for the authorities. The caste of untouchables exists again.

Two wars: at the front and in the rear

We have found ourselves in a terrible, tragic historical trap.

Hundreds of thousands of the best Ukrainians are fighting the Russian horde at the front, giving their lives, losing limbs so that Ukraine will never again be a colony of Moscow and live by the laws of the Gulag.

But while they hold the line of contact, deep in the rear, in the cozy government quarters of Kyiv, Russia has already partially won.

She didn’t win with tanks. She won mentally.

Because when the Ukrainian government uses the purely repressive, Chekist tools of the FSB to suppress its own business, when the National Police demands half a million dollars in bribes from entrepreneurs, when journalists are monitored as if they were terrorists, it means that mentally this government is part of the “Russian world.” They look at the state through the eyes of Yanukovych and Putin: as their fiefdom, as a territory where the people must be kept in submission through fear, police batons, and fabricated criminal cases.

Remembering everything: how four years of the Great War passed

Instead of an epitaph

Today, when we walk past the portraits of the Heavenly Hundred, we should be ashamed to look them in the eye. They went under sniper bullets not so that the “Berkut” would simply change into a new police uniform and come with searches and racketeering to volunteers and those who create GDP.

They died in the cold not so that Anti-Maidan spokesmen, whose hands are up to their elbows in blood and lies, would today shape the security policy of a warring country and decide who to imprison and whom to pardon.

They gave their lives for a European, legal, free Ukraine, where the state serves the citizen, not “milks” him.

This government has betrayed their memory absolutely, totally, and irrevocably. The continuity from Yanukovych to Zelenskyy has turned out to be an unbreakable line of degradation. They are made of the same dough – the dough of cowardice before the strong and cruelty towards the weak.

And until we realize that our internal enemy on Bankova uses the same Moscow vice as the external enemy in the Kremlin, we are doomed to walk in this bloody circle. There are a thousand times more cemeteries. There are more candles. There is more and more blood of real Ukrainians…

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

• Materials published in the “OPINIONS” section reflect the opinion of the author of the publication, who bears full responsibility for the accuracy of the information.
• The editorial staff of prm.ua may not share the opinions expressed in the author’s material.
• The owner of the webpage in the “OPINIONS” section is the author of the publication.

Source: Author’s Facebook page February.
