The Kremlin is creating a network of \u201cTrojan horses\u201d by buying up real estate near military bases in NATO countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> is stated<\/span><\/a> in the material of The Telegraph.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to intelligence officials, such actions by the Russians indicate preparations for a coordinated sabotage campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cases of buying real estate near military and civilian facilities have already been recorded in at least ten countries, including Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n

The purchased buildings were planned to be used by Russian intelligence agencies for surveillance, sabotage, and covert attacks. Some European intelligence officers suggest that the Kremlin stores explosives, drones, and weapons at certain sites and places secret agents to activate them at the right moment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than a military attack, Russia would rather engage in sabotage, paralyzing NATO countries\u2019 transport, communication, and energy networks. Such actions would complicate the application of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA sabotage campaign has less chance of consensus on Article 5 than a regular Russian military operation,\u201d the intelligence officer is convinced.<\/span><\/p>\n

Experts and politicians are concerned that the Russians may have purchased properties overlooking the Trident submarine base or the locations of undersea cables in Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also concerns that Kremlin agents own houses near the Akrotiri air base in Cyprus, naval bases and radar installations in Norway and Sweden, and key sea lanes and telecommunications infrastructure near the port of Turku in Finland.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor more than a decade, Russian entities have systematically purchased real estate in Finland, Sweden, and Norway near military bases, ports, and strategic supply lines,\u201d said a senior fellow for strategy and national security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that this tactic has existed since the Cold War, when the Soviet Union had a number of apartments in Helsinki that it used for espionage, weapons storage, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, European countries are being advised to follow the example of Finland and the Baltic countries, which have implemented an almost complete ban on Russians and Belarusians buying real estate.<\/span><\/p>\n

As it became known, Russia is using “disposable” agents for sabotage in European countries<\/a> in order to sow chaos and undermine support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
