On February 24, the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion, the European Parliament signed off on a \u20ac90 billion loan to Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was announced<\/span><\/a> by EP President Roberta Metzola.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA loan in support of Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros has just been signed on behalf of the European Parliament,\u201d the official wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

The funds from the billion-dollar loan will be used to provide basic public services, support Ukraine’s defense capabilities, protect “common security and freedom,” and achieve real and lasting peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among other things, Metsola emphasized the need to secure Ukraine’s future in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we reported late last year, European Union leaders decided to finance Ukraine’s defense with a loan rather than frozen Russian assets. The EU plans to raise a loan of 90 billion euros<\/a> to avoid political and financial disputes within the bloc.<\/p>\n

Hungary had previously blocked an agreed 90 billion euro European Union loan<\/a> for Ukraine. Budapest later said it would not support the loan until oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline were restored<\/a> .<\/p>\n
