Today, February 24, the General Affairs Council of Europe adopted two documents on providing Ukraine with a multi-billion loan for 2026-2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported by<\/span><\/a> “European Truth”.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is said that this will help continue the technical work on providing the loan. However, Hungary has blocked one draft law needed for the loan.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have officially adopted, as planned, the regulations on the loan in support of Ukraine and the mechanism for Ukraine,\u201d said Marilena Rauna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of the EU presidency of Cyprus.<\/span><\/p>\n

She added that for the Cyprus Presidency, European support for Ukraine is a priority at a time when Russian troops are attacking critical infrastructure and humanitarian needs are acute.<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, at a briefing in Kyiv, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, assured that Ukraine would receive aid in the amount of 90 billion hryvnias in any case.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMember states have already given their word, which cannot be broken,\u201d the official emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, it is expected that Ukraine will receive the first defense package by Easter – April 2026. In particular, the funds will be directed to priority needs in the defense sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you know, on February 24, the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion, the European Parliament signed a loan to Ukraine<\/a> worth 90 billion euros.<\/p>\n

As we reported late last year, European Union leaders decided to finance Ukraine’s defense with a loan rather than frozen Russian assets. The EU plans to raise a loan of 90 billion euros<\/a> to avoid political and financial disputes within the bloc.<\/p>\n

Hungary had previously blocked an agreed 90 billion euro European Union loan<\/a> for Ukraine. Budapest later said it would not support the loan until oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline were restored<\/a> .<\/p>\n
