Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has begun work as an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on economic recovery. He has joined the International Advisory Council on Ukraine’s Economic Recovery on a pro bono basis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to published documents from the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards, Sunak has joined a council that will provide expert advice to the president of Ukraine and his economic advisor, former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.<\/p>\n

Sunak said that he was honored to support Ukraine and praised Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s leadership.<\/p>\n

“The West needs a strong Ukraine, and a strong Ukraine needs a strong economy. That’s why I’m pleased to join the international group advising President Zelensky on economic reconstruction,” said Rishi Sunak.<\/p>\n

He expressed his belief that Ukraine can become one of the most dynamic economies in Europe thanks to human capital, natural resources, and innovative potential.<\/p>\n

The first meeting of the council was held on February 26, with the participation of international representatives, including World Bank President Ajayi Banga and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Odile Renaud-Basso. Representatives of Siemens, BlackRock, Citigroup and ArcelorMittal also participated in the meeting.<\/p>\n

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during the meeting, they discussed strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience before the next winter, as well as broader opportunities for investment, including in the defense industry.<\/p>\n

“We are open to partnership, to joint projects, to investments that will support our people and our security. Thank you to everyone who invests in the resilience of Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that on Thursday, February 26, a bilateral meeting between the American and Ukrainian delegations started in Geneva<\/a> .<\/p>\n

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Ukraine to “quickly” reach an agreement with Russia<\/a> ahead of preliminary US-mediated talks in Geneva.<\/p>\n
