An extreme heat wave is expected to hit every continent from July to September 2026.

This is warned by experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

They note that the main factor in global warming this year may be the El Niño climate phenomenon, with a 50–60% chance of its rapid formation.

El Niño is part of the larger ENSO climate cycle. During its active phase, easterly winds weaken and the water in the eastern Pacific Ocean warms up significantly, raising the average temperature on the planet by 0.1–0.2 °C.

The consequences could be serious: large-scale droughts are expected in Southeast Asia, Australia and South Africa, while weather conditions will become abnormally wet in the southern United States, Peru and Ecuador.

The last El Niño was recorded in 2023–2024 , and it was because of it that 2024 became the hottest year on record. If the phenomenon returns in 2026, the previous record will be broken, and in 2027 the heat may intensify even more. Thus, humanity may face two record-breaking hot years in a row.

At the same time, climatologists emphasize that even if El Niño does not form this year, it will not save from extreme heat. For example, last year 2025 was in the La Niña phase, which usually cools the planet, but still entered the top three hottest years on record.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

The planet could be gripped by record-breaking heat this summer, breaking all historical temperature records.
