NATO countries generally support US President Donald Trump’s policy of containing Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated<\/a> this in an interview with Newsmax.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Rutte stressed that the alliance itself is not participating in the operation. At the same time, the Secretary General noted that the allies support the US actions.<\/p>\n

“But it is clear that the allies are essentially supporting on a huge scale what the president is doing and also contributing to what the US is doing in the region now, destroying this Iranian nuclear potential and, of course, the missile potential,” Rutte said.<\/p>\n

According to him, European countries are also concerned about Tehran’s actions, including threats and attempted attacks linked to the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n

“Here in Europe, we know about Iran’s influence and its negative impact,” he added.<\/p>\n

Rutte also assured that the alliance continues to guarantee the security of its members.<\/p>\n

“Today, as NATO, we provide comprehensive protection for every centimeter of NATO territory,” the Secretary General emphasized.<\/p>\n

He gave the example of a missile threat towards Turkey, which was neutralized by the alliance’s missile defense systems.<\/p>\n

Speaking about Article 5 of the NATO treaty, Rutte said: “For good reasons, we will always be ambiguous about when Article 5 is triggered.”<\/p>\n

The Secretary General also said that he maintains contacts with partners in the Middle East, in particular with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. According to him, NATO is ready to assist partners with security amid the tense situation in the region.<\/p>\n
