Austria, Great Britain and Romania have announced that their representatives will not attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 Paralympic Games.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga.<\/p>\n

The countries’ refusal was the latest step in an international boycott following the International Paralympic Committee’s decision to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under their flags. So far, 14 countries and the EU have refused to participate in the ceremony, and the number is growing.<\/p>\n

Sybiga stressed that the boycott is not just a political position, but a moral signal against war. He recalled that Russian aggression has claimed the lives of at least 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches, destroyed 800 sports facilities, and caused hundreds of thousands of war crimes.<\/p>\n

“We call on all countries not to send their representatives to the ceremony. Say ‘no’ to war propaganda and attempts to whitewash reputations,” the minister added.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, eleven states, along with the European Union, have announced a boycott of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games<\/a> , which will soon start in Italy, due to the International Paralympic Committee’s decision to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under national flags and anthems.<\/p>\n
