The 2026 Winter Paralympic Games will be held in Italy. Over the course of ten days, athletes will compete for 79 sets of medals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition will be held from March 6 to 15, 2026, in northern Italy. The main host city will be Milan, with some tournaments taking place in other locations in the region, including the mountain town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, which is located about 350 kilometers from Milan.<\/p>\n

These Games will be the 14th Winter Paralympic Games in history. Organizers expect nearly 700 paraathletes from 56 countries around the world. The Ukrainian national team will also participate in the competitions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The official opening ceremony of the Paralympics will take place on March 6 in Verona. It will be held at the Verona Arena, an amphitheater that can accommodate up to 22,000 spectators. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. Kyiv time.<\/p>\n

The competition will begin two weeks after the conclusion of the Winter Olympics, which were also held in the region.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the official broadcaster of the competitions in Ukraine – Suspilne – announced that it would not broadcast the opening ceremony. The reason was the decision of the International Paralympic Committee to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to perform at the Games under national flags and anthems. Because of this, the Ukrainian broadcaster refused to show the opening ceremony of the competitions.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Austria, Great Britain and Romania announced that their representatives would not attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 Paralympic Games.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, eleven states, along with the European Union, have announced a boycott of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games<\/a> , which will soon start in Italy, due to the International Paralympic Committee’s decision to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under national flags and anthems.<\/p>\n
