Even more strangely, the very people whose job is to monitor such abuses appear oblivious.

Let’s look at the numbers, because they are more stubborn than government press releases.

In Poland, gasoline prices have risen by approximately 1.5% over the past two weeks.
In Romania, it is about 2.6%.
In Ukraine, plus 27%.

That is, in countries from which Ukrainian companies import gasoline, the price rises very slowly, like in a civilized market. And in Ukraine, it suddenly soars like a Falcon rocket but without NASA and without logic.
A naive question arises: how can imported fuel become ten times more expensive in Ukraine than in the countries where it is purchased?

Cartel conspiracy or inaction: why fuel prices are rising in Ukraine

Obviously, this looks like an economic miracle. Perhaps gasoline is expensive at the stage of transportation across the border. After all, there is probably a special Ukrainian air corridor where the price increases by tens of percent simply from touching the state reality.

And here the antimonopoly committee should have come on stage—a body created specifically to catch such “wonders.” But the committee is so touchingly silent, as if it were watching the sunset, not the fuel market.

Because when prices rise synchronously and almost simultaneously across all major chains, this is usually called a cartel conspiracy.

And when the authorities don’t notice this, it’s called political cover for the cartel.

And while the government demonstrates amazing blindness, the country is experiencing a very simple economic effect. Fuel prices are rising, logistics are rising, food prices are rising, inflation is rising, and the standard of living is falling.

But there is another layer to this story. Political.

Tyshchenko to the Rescue: Because Someone Has to Save the OPZH Wreckage

When, instead of forming a new coalition and a professional government, the authorities merely shuffle the same ministers, the economy starts to operate according to the principle of the old deck: the cards are the same, the magicians are the same, and the audience pays for the trick all over again.

And while Zelenskyy does not want to admit the obvious—that the monomajority has long since collapsed—the country is receiving a new form of governance.

It can be called “cartel economics under political cover.

And the funniest part of this story is that the authorities genuinely seem not to understand why people are surprised by the high gas prices.

Because if you look at the economy for a long time through the rose-colored glasses of political PR, 27% can easily be confused with 2%.
We remind you that Ukrainian gas stations, taking advantage of events in the Middle East, raised fuel prices to increase profits, even though the situation in the Persian Gulf had not yet affected the market. As a result, on March 5, fuel prices at Ukrainian gas stations continued to rise. Diesel saw the largest increase, while gasoline and autogas prices also went up.

Meanwhile, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has given gas station chains three days to explain the reasons for the sharp increase in prices for light petroleum products.
