Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina<\/span><\/span> (WTA 9) reached the third round of the prestigious BNP Paribas Open<\/span><\/span> WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells<\/span><\/span> (USA).<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the second round match, the Ukrainian defeated German representative Laura Siegemund<\/span><\/span> (WTA 55) in three sets.<\/p>\n

This was the opponents’ second meeting. Svitolina previously defeated Siegemund at the start of the 2020 Summer Olympics<\/span><\/span> in Tokyo<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n

This is Svitolina’s 12th appearance at the Indian Wells tournament. Her best result remains the 2019 semifinal, where she lost to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n

In the 2026 season, Svitolina has already played 19 matches and won 16 victories.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian’s next opponent will be American Ashlyn Krueger<\/span><\/span> (WTA 82), who has already eliminated Magda Linette<\/span><\/span> and Liudmyla Samsonova<\/span><\/span> at the tournament. Exactly one year ago, Svitolina defeated Krueger in the second round of this same tournament.<\/p>\n

Besides Svetolina, another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk<\/span><\/span> , also made it to the 1\/16 finals of the competition, having beaten Taylor Townsend<\/span><\/span> in her opening match.<\/p>\n
