The increase in daylight hours has allowed solar power plants to reach significant capacities, creating temporary surpluses of resources.

This was announced on the air of “Pryamoy” by the director of energy programs of the Razumkov Center, Volodymyr Omelchenko.

“Exports have resumed. They stopped around mid-November last year. At certain hours, when there is a lot of sun and solar panels are working, we simply have a surplus of this electricity… and there is nowhere to store it,” explains the studio guest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5od-6uiydyw

Survival plan: will Kyiv prepare for next winter?

According to him, selling electricity during surplus hours is an economically justified step, as it allows raising funds for further infrastructure restoration. This is more profitable than the forced shutdown of power units, which requires additional costs during their next launch. Despite the positive dynamics, a certain unevenness remains in the system, caused by local network destruction in certain regions, – noted Omelchenko.

At the same time, the Odesa region is currently in the most difficult energy situation due to the lack of its own generation and critical damage to the main networks. Omelchenko emphasizes that the region is completely dependent on external electricity supplies, which are technically impossible to provide in full, as Russian troops have focused their attacks on high-power transformers around the city.

“The racists decided to cut off Odessa from the energy system of Ukraine. Odessa does not have any of its own generation at all. They knocked out all the high-power substations around it,” Omelchenko noted, adding that the situation is further complicated by the fact that the aggressor has begun to attack even small distribution nodes, trying to completely sever the connection of the Odessa region with the country’s energy system.

A government of salvation: how to help Ukraine overcome the energy crisis

It was previously reported that Ukraine has resumed electricity exports to Europe . However, this does not mean a large-scale export of the resource from the country. It is only about small volumes that arise at certain hours due to a temporary generation surplus.

Instead, the government reported that the total need for restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine is 588 billion US dollars. According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, in 2025 alone, Russian aggression caused Ukraine losses of 64 billion dollars. The housing sector, transport and logistics infrastructure, and energy suffered the greatest damage.

At the same time, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the need for restoration and modernization of the energy sector for the next ten years is $90.6 billion. Compared to the previous estimate, this amount has increased by 34%. For the rapid restoration of the energy sector in 2026, $4.9 billion is needed .

Meanwhile, the leader of the “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko called on the authorities to urgently organize financing for the preparation of the energy sector for the next winter. According to the fifth President, the government should issue targeted government bonds and use these funds to ensure the modernization and protection of the energy system by the fall.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Ukraine’s energy system is showing signs of stabilization due to seasonal factors and active restoration work on damaged facilities.
