Ukraine confiscated 1,592 railcars belonging to Russian companies and used to transport commercial cargo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced<\/a> by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to her, the government has designated the State Property Fund as the body managing this property. After that, the cars will be transferred to Ukrzaliznytsia for use.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Svyridenko noted that in this way the state is launching a mechanism for seizing the assets of Russian companies and their further use.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The estimated value of the confiscated wagons is about 2.2 billion hryvnias. They are in working condition and can be used until the end of their service life.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

They are planned to be used for cargo transportation, in particular for defense needs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the Prime Minister, these cars belonged to sanctioned residents of Russia. Among them are VEB-Leasing, the state corporation for the development of VEB of the Russian Federation, the State Transport Leasing Company, JSC Nord – a subsidiary of Sberbank Leasing, as well as other Russian companies in the field of finance and logistics.<\/p>\n

Before the full-scale invasion in 2022, Russian companies used these wagons for transportation across the territory of Ukraine and the EU countries. After the war began, they remained on the territory of Ukraine and were arrested.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Last year, the National Security and Defense Council adopted a decision to confiscate them. It was put into effect by presidential decree and ratified by law.<\/p>\n

Svyridenko also noted that Ukraine continues to work with international partners to ensure that Russia is held accountable for all damages caused, and that confiscated assets are used to rebuild the country. <\/p>\n
