NATO has begun a large-scale ten-day exercise in the Arctic, involving more than 25,000 troops from 14 countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exercises are called Cold Response and take place mainly in Norway and Finland, which share a border with Russia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the agency, during the training, special attention is paid to the interaction between the military and the civilian population. In particular, they are testing how civilian structures can support the army during military operations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The exercise is also part of NATO’s Arctic Sentry initiative, which aims to strengthen the Alliance’s presence in the Arctic region.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This year’s maneuvers involve about 25,000 troops from 14 NATO countries. The United States has sent about four thousand troops.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, before the start of the exercises, the US military withdrew one squadron of F-35 fighter jets from maneuvers. The US did not specify whether this was related to the operation against Iran.<\/p>\n

“The U.S. military is a globally deployed force, and it is not abnormal for forces to dynamically redeploy for various reasons,” a U.S. official said in comments to Reuters.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, Norway has declared 2026 the year of “total defense.” Within the framework of this concept, the government plans to increase the preparedness of the civilian population, businesses, and government institutions for possible crises or military threats.<\/p>\n

The exercises will also test the readiness of hospitals in northern Norway to receive a larger number of wounded soldiers than usual.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia is expanding military units on the borders with NATO countries and is using the war against Ukraine to gain combat experience for the army.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the results of international exercises demonstrated a significant gap between the theoretical developments of Western strategists and the harsh reality of combat operations.
