Presidential elections in Ukraine in 2026 will not be held due to security risks and the unpreparedness of the legislative framework.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Central Election Commission considers holding the vote this year inappropriate. The working group preparing the electoral process has failed to agree on key issues, including security guarantees and protection from Russian interference.<\/p>\n

Discussions on the possible holding of elections are ongoing and may drag on until at least the end of May. At the same time, the CEC emphasizes that the election campaign can only be launched after a ceasefire and the adoption of the necessary laws.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Serhiy Dubovyk, stated that first the active phase of hostilities must end and a clear demarcation line must appear. After that, at least six months are needed to prepare for the elections.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The idea of holding a vote during martial law due to amendments to the Constitution was also not supported. The CEC points to high risks for voters due to possible shelling of polling stations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Additional obstacles remain martial law restrictions that complicate the election campaign. The opposition also opposes electronic voting due to risks of manipulation and problems with international control.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Petro Poroshenko explained during a special broadcast on the TV channels “Pryamiy” and “Channel 5” why elections are impossible during martial law.<\/a><\/p>\n
