The system is expected to enter service in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone in the development of hypersonic technologies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armyrecognition.com\/news\/army-news\/2026\/us-army-to-deploy-first-operational-dark-eagle-hypersonic-missile-with-3-500-km-range-in-coming-weeks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Army Recognition<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon program is moving from development to deployment after lengthy delays and technical difficulties. The system will be the first hypersonic weapon the US plans to deploy on the front lines.<\/p>\n<p>The Army is nearing full equipping of its first combat battery, according to Frank Lozano, the program manager for the Army&#8217;s acquisition program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Army is nearing full equipping of the first operational battery, with integration expected to be complete within a few weeks,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Dark Eagle hypersonic system is launched from a ground platform using the boost-glide principle. After launch, the launch vehicle accelerates the warhead to speeds in excess of Mach 5, after which it separates and maneuvers through the atmosphere toward its target.<\/p>\n<p>The stated strike range is approximately <strong>3,500 km<\/strong> , exceeding the preliminary estimate of 2,775 km. This range allows the missile to potentially reach targets over significant distances, including between different regions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The system can reach its maximum range in less than 20 minutes.<\/strong> The warhead weighs less than 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) and uses kinetic energy to destroy targets, dispersing elements over an area comparable to a large parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>The development program has received more than $12 billion in funding since 2018.
