This effectively allowed Moscow to obtain data from the European Union&#8217;s negotiations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This is reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2026\/03\/21\/hungary-election-interference-russia-orban\/?next_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fworld%2F2026%2F03%2F21%2Fhungary-election-interference-russia-orban%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Post<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p> According to a European security source, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 made calls during breaks in meetings, informing the Russian side about the content of the discussions and possible solutions.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThanks to such calls, at every EU meeting for many years, Moscow has actually been at the negotiating table,\u201d the official noted.<\/p>\n<p> As noted, this practice continued for years and allowed Russia to gain access to sensitive EU information not only through contacts with Hungarian officials, but also through cyber-infiltration of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs&#8217; network.<\/p>\n<p> This was stated by several current and former European officials, including the former head of the Hungarian Cyber Defense Service, Ferenc Fresz.<\/p>\n<p> It is separately noted that since the start of Russia&#8217;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 has made 16 official visits to Moscow. The last of these took place on March 4, when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p> Recall that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, during a meeting with Fidesz party activists in the city of Szombathely, stated that <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/orban-nazvav-ukrainu-vorohom-uhorshchyny-cherez-pozytsiiu-shchodo-rosiyskoho-hazu\/\">Ukraine is an &#8220;enemy&#8221; of Hungary due to its support for the ban on Russian gas and oil supplies to the EU<\/a> .
