In 2020, Hungarian<\/span><\/span> Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3<\/span><\/span> approached Russian<\/span><\/span> Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov<\/span><\/span> with a request to assist the Social Democratic Party of Slovakia<\/span><\/span> in its election victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated in the published transcript by investigative journalist Szabolcs P\u00e1nyi<\/span><\/span> of the VSquare<\/span><\/span> project.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 requested a meeting between then-Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini<\/span><\/span> and Russian leaders in Moscow on the eve of the elections. He believed this could have influenced the outcome.<\/p>\n

“It’s crucial for us that the coalition there survives. We hope for a victory for the Social Democrats, as they are the only rational force in Slovak politics that operates without foreign influence,” the transcript reads.<\/p>\n

The article also notes that Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 emphasized the importance of the Slovak National Party (SNS), led by Andrej Danko<\/span><\/span> , getting into parliament to form a coalition with the Social Democrats.<\/p>\n
