India has approved a large-scale purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems worth about $25 billion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Indian Ministry of Defense.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is a contract within the overall defense procurement package of 2.38 trillion rupees.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The agreement was signed with Rosoboronexport in the presence of Defense Minister Rajesh Kumar Singh.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition to the S-400, India also plans to modernize Russian fighter jets and purchase strike drones for reconnaissance and combat operations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The country currently has three S-400 systems, which were used during the conflict with Pakistan in May 2025. Two more systems are expected in the near future.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Despite its policy of diversifying suppliers, Russia provides more than a third of India’s defense needs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Experts note that such an agreement could complicate Delhi’s relations with the United States, which has previously criticized the purchase of Russian weapons.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that India plans to resume direct purchases of liquefied natural gas from Russia for the first time since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n
