The European Commission has already taken preparatory steps to provide a 90 billion loan to Ukraine despite Hungary’s blockade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported by<\/span><\/a> “Suspilne”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European Commission proposes that the European Council approve the total amount of the loan in 2026. After the Council approves the available financial assistance, the EC will transfer the first tranche of assistance to Ukraine as soon as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is expected that by the end of this year, Kyiv will receive 45 billion euros from Brussels: 28.3 billion for defense, the rest for budget support.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe will provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros. Today, we are taking the necessary preparatory measures to mobilize this year’s budget and purchase defense equipment, focusing on Ukraine’s advanced drone industry. By doing so, we are sending a clear signal: the Commission is ready to move forward,\u201d assured EC President Ursula von der Leyen.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, according to the European Commission spokesperson, this year it is planned to adopt some documents to support Ukraine, including the Financing Strategy for Ukraine, which will determine the volume of payments, their goals and channels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Preparations are also underway for a memorandum of understanding, an updated plan for Ukraine, and loan agreements.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we look at the situation, the conclusion that seemed to be coming was that there would be additional financial needs in the second quarter of this year. And we set a goal, essentially, to be ready with all the relevant legislation by the second quarter. So there has been significant progress,\u201d the spokesman explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

He expressed hope that the European Union will transfer the first funds to Ukraine in the first half of the second quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n

The day before, the head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, during a visit to Ukraine, stated that there was no \u201cgood news\u201d yet regarding the provision of a loan of 90 billion<\/a> .<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on Thursday, March 19, a summit of EU leaders was held in Brussels, where one of the key issues was financial support for Ukraine<\/a> , in particular the possible unlocking of a 90 billion euro aid package.<\/p>\n

However, European leaders were unable to convince Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to abandon<\/a> the decision to block a $90 billion loan for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
