The Cabinet of Ministers approved the requirements for the level of English proficiency for applicants for certain positions in public administration, education, and science.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

These are different levels depending on the position. For candidates for the highest civil service positions of category A, as well as for heads of regional state administrations and their deputies, a minimum level of B1 on the CEFR scale has been established.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For heads of state scientific institutions and higher education institutions, the requirement is higher – not lower than B2.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For some positions in categories B and C, as well as in the field of education and science, a flexible approach will be applied: the level of English will depend on specific responsibilities.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, the government has provided an exception for the educational and scientific fields. If the candidate speaks another official EU language at a level of at least B2, the English requirement can be lowered to B1.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes that the new rules apply only to positions defined by law and do not apply to all civil servants or educators.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

These requirements will not come into effect immediately. They will come into effect several years after the end or lifting of martial law.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The ministry also noted that a public discussion was held during the preparation of the decisions. Most of the proposals were taken into account. <\/p>\n
