Rising prices for oil, gas and fertilizers, as well as transport barriers, will inevitably lead to a sharp rise in food prices and food insecurity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated in<\/a><\/span> a joint statement<\/a> by the heads of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group and the World Food Programme.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the war in the Middle East is upending lives and depriving people of their livelihoods in the region and beyond.<\/p>\n

“It has already led to one of the largest crises in global energy markets in modern history. The sharp rise in oil, gas, and fertilizer prices, as well as transport barriers, will inevitably lead to higher food prices and food security issues,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

Low-income countries with high import dependency will be hit hardest by the food crisis. Vulnerable groups are particularly at risk.<\/p>\n

“The sharp rise in fuel prices and the potential for sharp increases in food prices are of particular concern where fiscal space is limited and debt burdens are already high, reducing governments’ ability to protect vulnerable households,” the IMF warned.<\/p>\n

Let us remember that the rise in fuel prices is connected with the war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

This is a key oil and gas producing region on which European refiners depend, so markets are sensitive to the risk of supply disruptions.<\/p>\n

Along with oil prices, prices for fertilizers and food products are rising.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Iran confirmed a two-week ceasefire with the United States<\/a> and stated its readiness to open the Strait of Hormuz for this period.<\/p>\n
