Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar said that Bratislava is ready to block the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia. However, the country will not prevent Ukraine from receiving a billion-dollar loan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Foreign Minister, Slovakia will not support new sanctions against the Russians until it receives guarantees regarding the resumption of the Druzhba oil pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to members of the European Affairs Committee of the Slovak Parliament, Blanar emphasized that the country wants to receive a clear statement that the pipeline will resume operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Druzhba pipeline is not operational, and the issue of approving the 20th package is being discussed, we will not approve it, because we have no other tools than to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, together with the European Commission, to launch the pipeline,\u201d he said in the Slovak parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, commenting on the position of the future government of Hungary, the minister noted that Budapest is ready to support Ukraine in obtaining a loan from the EU. In turn, Blanar did not make any statements about blocking the European loan. Moreover, he noted: the information that the Slovak Prime Minister would “take over” from Orban was distorted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Orban previously stated the need to lift all sanctions on Russian energy<\/a> . Orban has already voiced a corresponding proposal to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n

Recall, in February, EU foreign ministers were unable to agree on the 20th package of sanctions<\/a> against Russia due to Hungary’s veto.<\/p>\n
