Law enforcement officers have uncovered large-scale schemes to purchase firewood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary estimates, the state’s losses exceed 100 million hryvnias.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the National Police of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The case concerns deals with the purchase of firewood for the military. According to the investigation, officials of housing and operational departments, together with \u201ctheir\u201d contractors, concluded contracts at inflated prices or did not supply the products in full.<\/p>\n

“In some cases, the cost of wood exceeded the market price by 30\u201340%, or the goods were not supplied in full at all,” law enforcement officials note.<\/p>\n

The police add that such fraud directly affected the budget and needs of the army.<\/p>\n

“Manipulations with figures in documents led to multimillion-dollar losses for the state,” the report says. <\/p>\n

On April 15, law enforcement officers conducted a large-scale operation in several regions at once. Within the framework of 20 criminal proceedings, almost 50 searches were carried out in various regions of Ukraine and Kyiv. <\/p>\n

So far, six people have been charged, including former and current officials, with embezzlement, official negligence, and neglect of military service. <\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing \u2014 law enforcement officers are identifying everyone involved in this scheme.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, NABU and SAPO have completed an investigation into a large-scale case of alleged corruption during the procurement of drones and electronic warfare equipment for defense needs<\/a> . Now the case materials have been opened for review by the defense side.<\/p>\n

As reported, law enforcement officers uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme at Ukrgazvydobuvannya, which caused losses to the state of over 295 million hryvnias.<\/a><\/p>\n
