More than 300 airlines have appealed to governments to prepare an action plan in advance in case of fuel supply restrictions.<\/p>\n

Willie Walsh, director general of the International Air Transport Association, warned that the first flight cancellations in Europe could begin as early as the end of May. He said similar problems are already occurring in parts of Asia.<\/p>\n

The industry notes that governments should act proactively and prepare coordinated solutions in the event of a crisis.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The situation is complicated by limited fuel supplies, which the International Energy Agency estimates will last for about six weeks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The main reason is said to be supply disruptions due to the situation in the Middle East and problems with transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s aviation fuel supplies pass.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands are most dependent on these supplies, where shortages could be felt most quickly.<\/p>\n

Additional pressure is being created by rising prices: the cost of jet fuel has roughly doubled during the war with Iran. As a result, some airlines are already reducing the number of flights.<\/p>\n

The industry emphasizes that due to the global nature of the market, supply problems spread quickly, so the risk of flight restrictions or cancellations remains high.<\/p>\n

Earlier, oil and natural gas prices fell after Iran announced it would open the Strait of Hormuz.<\/a> Markets responded by falling prices amid expectations of reduced risks to energy supplies.<\/p>\n
