Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an attacker who opened fire on civilians and took hostages in Kyiv has been eliminated. According to him, 5 people died as a result of the incident, and 10 more were hospitalized with injuries.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Head of State noted that the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, reported on the elimination of the attacker and the progress of the investigation. He added that the circumstances of the incident are currently being established, and investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are working at the scene.<\/p>\n

“The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has just reported on the elimination of an attacker in Kyiv who opened fire on ordinary people. All circumstances are being clarified,” Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n

According to the president, 4 hostages were rescued during a special operation.<\/p>\n

“Currently, 5 deaths are known. My condolences to their families and loved ones,” Zelensky added.<\/p>\n

He also reported that 10 victims are in hospitals, where they are receiving the necessary medical care.<\/p>\n

“As of now, 10 people are hospitalized with injuries and traumas. Everyone is being provided with the necessary assistance,” Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko confirmed<\/a> that the shooter who held hostages in Kyiv was eliminated during an assault by the KORD special forces.<\/p>\n

He reported that the incident occurred in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, where a 58-year-old native of Moscow opened fire and barricaded himself inside a supermarket.<\/p>\n

“In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, a 58-year-old native of Moscow opened fire, killing four people, and then barricaded himself in a supermarket and held hostages,” Kravchenko said.<\/p>\n

According to him, the attacker probably used an automatic weapon. A fire also broke out in the apartment where he was registered.<\/p>\n

“The Kyiv city prosecutor promptly arrived at the scene. During the assault by the KORD special unit, the shooter was eliminated. I consider it a matter of principle: the state must act toughly and decisively when it comes to a threat to people’s lives. In such situations, there is no room for compromise, there is only a duty to protect citizens,” Kravchenko said.<\/p>\n

As is known, an unknown person opened fire on people in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv<\/a> . Subsequently, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that a child was injured as a result of the shooting in the capital, and is currently hospitalized.<\/a><\/p>\n
