Four Ukrainian minesweepers currently in Portsmouth<\/span><\/span> could become part of a British-French mission to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz<\/span><\/span> after the conflict in the region ends.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The British publication The Times reports<\/a> this, citing a source in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The ships in question were transferred to Ukraine by its allies: HMS Shoreham<\/span><\/span> and HMS Grimsby<\/span><\/span> from the UK, as well as UNS Mariupol and UNS Melitopol from the Netherlands and Belgium.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the publication, Ukrainian officers are already participating in military planning in Northwood<\/span><\/span> and have expressed their readiness to join allied operations. However, these vessels are unable to enter the Black Sea due to restrictions under the Montreux Convention<\/span><\/span> and risks posed by Russia.<\/p>\n

In addition, Ukraine can offer its partners other assistance options, including maritime drones and counter-drone systems to protect shipping from attacks.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Iran opened the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial shipping<\/a> during the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. This decision was part of the ceasefire agreement and impacted shipping safety in the region.<\/p>\n
