Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced his intention to resign from parliament and focus on reorganizing his Fidesz party after its election defeat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by the Sweden Herald.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Orban, the decision to resign the mandate is due to the fact that he received it as the party’s main candidate, and therefore considers it party-related.<\/p>\n

“Since the mandate I received as the main candidate on the Fidesz list is actually a parliamentary mandate from Fidesz, I have decided to return it. Now I am needed not in parliament, but in the reorganization of the national camp,” said<\/a> Viktor Orb\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

The publication notes that the politician is leaving parliament after his coalition was defeated in the elections.<\/p>\n

According to the results of the vote on April 12, opposition leader Peter Magyar received 141 of the 199 seats in parliament.<\/p>\n

This victory ended Viktor Orb\u00e1n’s 16-year tenure as Prime Minister of Hungary.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Orban stated that he was ready to continue leading the Fidesz party if such a decision was supported by the party congress.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban commented on the defeat of his Fidesz party in the parliamentary elections held on April 12. He acknowledged the massive failure and said that he takes full responsibility for the result. Viktor Orban said in an interview that the election result came as a surprise to him<\/a> , as he was confident of victory before the vote.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the winner of Hungary’s parliamentary elections, Peter Magyar, has announced the date of his inauguration as prime minister. He said the official swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 9.<\/a> On the same day, Magyar’s team will hold a public event in central Budapest.<\/p>\n
